The thinking

Search and display aren't substitutes - they're complements. Search catches the person actively typing 'Kerala trip from Delhi.' Display catches the same person two days later, after they've looked at four other options and forgotten about you.

Search ran tight - exact and phrase match on high-purchase-intent terms only. Display built custom audiences from the search side and placed creative across travel blogs, itinerary pages, and YouTube. Started on Maximize Clicks to gather signal, then switched to Maximize Conversions once the data was thick enough. The template later carried into other destination launches.

Execution

  • Negative-keyword list excluded 'free trip', 'flight only', 'cheap hotel' and DIY queries from day one
  • Display creatives leaned on destination visuals with a 'Plan Your Trip' CTA
  • 70% of leads came from mobile; bidding and landing page both optimised for mobile completion
  • GTM tracked every submission for clean Search-vs-Display attribution
  • Bidding switched from Max Clicks to Max Conversions once 30+ conversions accumulated
